FN M1900 Configurable Grips

This is a smaller project I worked on during the summer break. I decided to create game-ready grips, intended to fit on the FN M1900 pistol. These grips provided an especially useful learning opportunity for me to better understand Substance Designer, as well as setting up exposed parameters to be able to control the material to your liking.

Whilst the grips alone were the main focus for this project. I also used this opportunity to improve my hard surface sculpting skills in ZBrush. I chose to use these high poly sculpts (the pistol, magazine and bullet) as supporting assets for the grips in renders. Although, they were never retopped to be game-ready for the purpose of keeping the main focus on the grips, being a smaller project of mine.

Using Substance Designer for the grip material allowed for various customisation options in Substance Painter. This was an important step in order to better understand the use of exposed parameters and setting them up to provide better freedom over the material. It wasn't something I had too much experience with, prior to this project, so I found that I ended up learning a lot about Substance Designer this way.
